The SF Pathways to Citizenship Initiative has just launched a fee assistance program for individuals applying for citizenship!
Applying for Citizenship can be expensive, and may include both legal costs and application fees. Don’t worry – the SF Pathways to Citizenship Initiative can help with both of these costs by providing free legal assistance and now helping to pay the $680 application fee!
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) currently offers fee waivers for low income citizenship applicants. This waiver covers the full cost of the application fee, and is available only if you clearly demonstrate that you are unable to pay the filing fees. To apply for a fee waiver, you will need to fill out Form I-912, Request for Fee Waiver, and submit any supporting documents. More information is available on USCIS’s website here.
If you don’t qualify for the fee waiver, but still need financial assistance, you may be eligible for a match fund that covers 50% ($340) of your citizenship application fee. Individuals with a demonstrated connection to San Francisco (live or work in the city) may be eligible for application fee assistance. We are partnering with Mission Asset Fund to help cover the cost of your application fee through match funds available via lending circles. The remaining 50% of the application fee will be provided via a no-interest loan in community-based, lending-circle program. Match funds will be prioritized based on need, and funds are limited. See the attached flyer for more information, and to learn more, talk with one of our nonprofit partners, or visit www.lendingcircles.org
